Brief

Translational medicine depicts a "bench-to-bedside" process, transforming discoveries from basic research into clinical application. In this course, we will introduce general concepts about translation medicine, provide an overview of current development of translational research in biomedicine, including history, success and failure, as well as ethical debates. We will also discuss guidelines for designing and conducting a translational study, and the regulatory issues abound. In addition to lectures given by instructors, Biomedical R&D and physician scientist will be invited to offer their viewpoints and experiences in industry, lab and clinics. To the end of this course, students will understand the basic terminology in translational medicine and will gain a general concept about drug development and (pre-) clinical trials.
